MORNING SUN

A Goodnight with Ray Burton

JAZZ/ROCK Morning Sun is a cool-school love song with a jazz/rock groove. I recorded this song some years ago with the legendary Sydney band "Crossfire" plus other extremely talented musicians. BASS: Greg Lyon, DRUMS: Doug Gallagher, ELECTRIC GUITAR: Jim Kelly, 12 STRING GUITAR: Ray Burton, MOOG: Rex Bullen, HAMMOND ORGAN, Rex Bullen, BACKUP VOCALS: Ray Burton, LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton, ELECTRIC PIANO: Tony Ansel, CLAVINET: Rex Bullen, STRING ARRANGEMENT: Col Loughnan [ex-Ayers Rock]. I believe there is a certain musical sophistication that comes from Sydney musicians that you just don't seem to get anywhere else. play >>
LADY LUCK

A Goodnight with Ray Burton

JAZZ ROCK Love is always just a gamble and Lady Luck can either smile upon you or tear you to shreds and leave you destitute but if you don't have a go you'll never know. Right? BASS: Steve Hogg [Blackfeather], DRUMS: Terry Gasgoine, ELECTRIC GUITARS: Tim Piper and Ray Burton, HAMMOND ORGAN: Rex Bullen, PERCUSSION: Ian Bloxham, BACKUP VOCALS: Ray Burton, STRING ARRANGEMENT: Col Loughnan, LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton. play >>
PADDINGTON GREEN

A Goodnight with Ray Burton

POP/BALLAD The Paddington Green Hotel is a fantastic bar in the heart of Sydney where I used to have the occasional Aussie brown ale with my musician and songwriter friends. Paddington Green is another girl/guy song with a jazz/rock groove. I also recorded this song many years ago with the legendary Sydney band "Crossfire" plus to the mix I added some other extremely talented musicians. BASS: Greg Lyon, DRUMS: Doug Gallagher, ACOUSTIC PIANO: Tony Ansel, ELECTRIC GUITAR: Jim Kelly, HAMMOND ORGAN: Rex Bullen, LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton, BACKUP VOCALS: Ray Burton, STRING ARRANGEMENT: Col Loughnan [ex-Ayers Rock] play >>
HEADING FOR THE SUNSHINE

A Goodnight with Ray Burton

SOFT ROCK I wrote this song just before moving up to the beautiful north coast of N.S.W. When I was 10 years old I had a holiday on my uncle's dairy farm in Rosebank. I have never been able to get that feeling of fresh air and absolute freedom out of my system ever since. This song describes my feelings perfectly and Rex Bullen's moog solo never fails to take me on a flight to the Byron Bay hinterland. MOOG: Rex Bullen, BASS: Greg Lyon, DRUMS: Doug Gallagher, ACOUSTIC GUITARS: Ray Burton and Mal Clarke, ELECTRIC PIANO: Tony Ansel, ELECTRIC GUITAR: Jim Kelly, BACKUP VOCALS: Ray Burton, PERCUSSION: Ian Bloxham, STRING ARRANGEMENT: Col Loughnan, LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton. play >>
LADY OF THE MORNING

A Goodnight with Ray Burton

LATIN ROCK Featuring the "Crossfire" band in full flight. I wrote this song after an all night party while watching the sun rise over the ocean [alone]. Being the hopeless romantic that I am I imagined a beautiful lady with long dark hair playfully running barefoot along the high tide line of the surf. In my minds eye she was wearing a white flowing chiffon dress that was being blown about by the warm early morning breeze. She was my imaginary lady of the morning and I then went straight home and wrote the song. BASS: Greg Lyon, DRUMS: Doug Gallagher, ELECTRIC GUITAR: Jim Kelly, ACOUSTIC GUITARS: Ray Burton and Mal Clarke, ACOUSTIC GRAND PIANO: Tony Ansel, PERCUSSION: Ian Bloxham, BACKUP VOCALS: Ray Burton, LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton. play >>
CHERAY

A Goodnight with Ray Burton

COUNTRY ROCK This is a song that I wrote for my talented singer/songwriter daughter Cheray. The song opens with "Little girl with golden curls, shining bright in your daddy's world'. What else can a proud father say here other than quote another part of the song lyric "Cheray Cheray you're a Hollywood star you're a sun-shiny day".

TOO HARD TO HANDLE

Rock Salt

COUNTRY ROCK Too Hard To Handle is a Country Rock song with a hard rock edge. I recorded this song some years ago with a collection of great musicians that I am proud to be associated with. BASS: Barry Sullivan [ex-Chain], DRUMS: Steve Hopes, KEYBOARDS: Rex Bullen, GUITARS: Peter Walker [ex-Bakery] BACKUP VOCALS: Kerrie Biddel and Ray Burton, LEAD VOCALS: Yours Truly. This song is all about having more fun than is more than likely legally allowed. It's about being chased by creditors, landlords, police [the sheriff] and being scolded by a girlfriend who just will not understand the hardships of a man touring on the road in the music business. It all became a little too much for me and Hey! It wasn't easy out there so I wrote this song. I thought it was quite appropriate at the time. play >>
TROUBLE

Rock Salt

ROCK This song is all about getting out on the town and having a great time with your girlfriend even if she does spell “TROUBLE” in capital letters. Party hearty boys but watch out for the fun police! BASS; Greg Lyon, DRUMS: Doug Gallagher, GUITARS: Jim Kelly and Ray Burton, KEYBOARDS; Rex Bullen, SAXOPHONE: Col Loughnan, LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton. play >>
LOVE GUN

Rock Salt

ROCK Love gun is a rather pretentious tongue in cheek look at all of the young dudes out there with abnormally high testosterone levels who are determined to get some lovin' no matter what. I originally wrote this song with Doug Parkinson's big soulful voice in mind and decided later to record the song myself. BASS: Barry Sullivan [Chain], DRUMS: Steve Hopes, ELECTRIC GUITAR: Peter Walker [Bakery], PIANOS: Rex Bullen and Warren Morgan, BACKUP VOCALS: Ray Burton, LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton. play >>
THE DREAMER

Rock Salt

ROCK Dreamers can be prophets. For instance, Nostradamus was a dreamer. This song begins with a lilting early British Rock feel reminiscent of the vintage Steve Winwood [Traffic] school of thought, but it ends up with a wall of chaotic energized sound that rivals a space shuttle lift off. Fasten your seatbelts! DRUMS: Steve Hopes, BASS: Barry Sullivan [Chain], GUITARS: Peter Walker [Bakery], KEYBOARDS: Rex Bullen, STRING ARRANGEMENT: Jackie Orzasky, BACKUP VOCALS:Ray Burton, LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton. play >>
AIN'T IT FUNNY

Rock Salt

COUNTRY/ROCK Recorded using the “Crossfire” band rhythm section plus a couple of other great musicians. This is a fun track based on acoustic guitar riffs. It's all about the game of love and how it just seems to always run in cycles and how it also just seems to keep the world turning. BASS: Greg Lyon, DRUMS: Doug Gallagher, MOOG: Rex Bullen, ELECTRIC GUITAR: Jim Kelly, 12 STRING GUITAR: Ray Burton, ELECTRIC PIANO: Tony Ansel, BACKUP VOCALS: Ray Burton. LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton. play >>
NOBODY NEEDS YOU LIKE I DO

Rock Salt

ROCK/POP A studio demo song in San Francisco's Fantasy Studio's with ”Punch” a Los Angeles based band. I was the lead singer in this band for a year or so in LA. This track features Jim Altman [Hi Jim] and Dave Battelene on harmony guitar lines. It's quite simple really, all this song really says is that regardless of how many other people are in love with your girl or your guy, all YOU want to tell your girl or guy is that “Nobody Needs You Like I Do” so please tell all of the other suitors or competitors if you like, to politely take a hike and get lost. Ah, isn't love grand? play >>

WILD SEED WIND

Wild Seed Wind

COUNTRY This song features the “Crossfire” rhythm section again plus Mal Clarke [ex-Bullemakanka] and myself on acoustic guitars and the music counterlines of Col Loughnan [ex-Ayers Rock] on flute and Rex Bullen echoing the flute lines on Moog keyboard. This is a guitar pickin' country love song I wrote while living in the beautiful Dandenong hills outside of Melbourne. Anyone who has ever experienced an early springtime morning in the Dandenongs will know exactly what I was feeling at the time. I guess I have always been a sucker for sweet romance combined with picturesque and majestic landscapes. That's normal isn't it? play >>
LET THE SUN SET THE PACE

Wild Seed Wind

COUNTRY ROCK I wrote this with my good friends Mal Clarke and John Carr in mind. Mal and John made a “Sea Change” / “Tree Change” long before anyone had the slightest inkling of what those terms even meant. Not long after I too bought a property up near the Queensland border in Northern N.S.W. where you will find the best beaches, the friendliest people and the prettiest countryside on the entire planet. BASS: Greg Lyon, DRUMS: Doug Gallagher, ACOUSTIC GUITARS: Ray Burton and Mal Clarke, HAMMOND ORGAN: Rex Bullen, ELECTRIC PIANO: Tony Ansel, ELECTRIC GUITAR: Jim Kelly, BACKUP VOCALS: Ray Burton, LEAD VOCAL: Ray Burton. play >>

BRING BACK THOSE GOOD OLD DAYS
(recent addition to the album)

Wild Seed Wind

COUNTRY/ROCK I co-wrote this song with Darius Gakas who is a great lyricist and story teller. It will escort you right back to your high school days and walk you down memory lane for a journey through the different stages of your life from your wild and free days to “married with children”. This track features the brilliant slide guitar work of the legendary Kirk Lorange. play >>
HARD TIMES
(recent addition to the album)

Wild Seed Wind

COUNTRY Hard Times talks about the relentless struggle that farmers and their families have out in the country. It's constant battle for them against the cruel and merciless elements. Flood, drought, dust, swarming insect plagues, cold snaps followed by heat waves; they all put farming families to the ultimate test. This song talks about drought and what it can do to the relationships of the hard working people out there. One thing is for sure, you can bet that someone's always out there on the land praying for the rain. play >>
